Buying an optical level: 24X or 32X?

An optical level determines height differences by reading a levelling staff. For construction, earthworks and transferring reference heights, compare magnification, readability and the accessories you need. The CONDTROL 24X and 32X offered here are optical instruments; they do not project laser lines.

What is the difference between the two models?

32× magnifies the staff image more than 24×. What counts for your choice are your usual sighting distances, the readability of the graduation and the required accuracy. The standard deviation for double-run levelling is not a promise of a specific deviation for every single measurement. Both instruments have a magnetically damped compensator and are first roughly levelled with the circular vial.

Optical level with tripod: what else do you need?

The two available products are single instruments. A tripod and levelling staff are not automatically included. Check the stated scope of delivery and choose a stable tripod with a suitable connection and a suitable staff. Existing accessories can still be used if connection, working height and condition are right.

Optical level or laser?

• Reading staff values and comparing heights: optical level with a clear line of sight to the staff.
• Using an all-round reference plane with receiver: Compare rotary lasers.
• Seeing lines for tiling, drywall and installation: Compare cross-line lasers.

In searches, “level” is also used for laser tools. Decide by the measuring task and the way you want to work, not by the term alone.

Before the first measurement

Set up instrument and tripod securely, focus the crosshairs and staff, eliminate parallax and hold the staff vertically. Take backsights and foresights at similar sighting distances where possible. The manual of each instrument describes checking and adjustment.

Delivery and warranty

Standard delivery within Germany: 2–4 working days. Two years' warranty; one additional year after registration in accordance with the warranty terms.
